Personal trainer software that writes the workout plan

RungGym is not an all-in-one package. It does one thing: build a workout plan per client that holds up, and finish it all the way to a PDF you can hand over.

Personal trainer software is software a trainer uses to manage client coaching. The market splits in two: broad all-in-one platforms that combine scheduling, payments, member administration, communication and workout plans, and specialised tools that finish one of those jobs completely. RungGym belongs to the second kind and does only the workout plan: a 3 to 6 week block per client, filtered on injuries and available equipment, dosed along the ACSM and NSCA guidelines and exportable as a PDF.

Two kinds of software, two kinds of problems

Most packages on the market are broad: calendar, payments, member records, a client app. Useful when your problem is administration — scheduling, invoicing, follow-up.

But the programming work itself is a second problem those packages barely touch. A plan module where you still click every exercise, set and rep saves time — it doesn't take over the decisions. RungGym tackles that second problem instead: you enter the client, RungGym applies the rules, and a complete block comes back.

What RungGym does

  • Assemble a complete 3 to 6 week training block per client
  • Automatically exclude exercises advised against for a ticked condition
  • Only pick exercises your client has the equipment for
  • Dose sets, reps and rest by goal, with a source reference per rule
  • Build the load progressively across the block and note it as a percentage
  • Rotate across movement patterns so sessions don't feel identical
  • Warn when your chosen frequency falls below the ACSM recommendation
  • Export the block as a PDF with space to write down weights

What RungGym does not do

  • Scheduling and appointment management
  • Invoicing and collecting payments from your clients
  • An app or login for your clients — they get their plan as a PDF
  • Nutrition plans and calorie calculation
  • Member administration for a gym
  • Chat or messaging with your clients
  • Editing a block exercise by exercise afterwards — you generate a new block instead

If you do want those things, you need a broad platform. That is a more honest answer than selling you a package that half fits.

How this differs from a plan builder

It's who makes the decision. In a plan builder you pick the exercises; the software just lays them out. In RungGym the rules are fixed — an exercise advised against for a ticked condition never enters the plan, not even on a busy Friday evening.

The flip side: you give up some fine-tuning. The engine picks along rules, not your gut feeling about that one client. You steer through the input, and where a choice deviates from a guideline you get a warning, not a silent adjustment.

Where the evidence comes from

Every dosage rule references a concrete source. The main ones are the 2026 position stand on resistance training by the American College of Sports Medicine, based on 137 systematic reviews with over 30,000 participants combined, and the NSCA Essentials of Strength Training and Conditioning, fifth edition. For core training with low back pain the selection follows the work of Stuart McGill.

The exercise database holds 191 exercises. Each one carries its muscle groups, required equipment, variant family, an execution cue, the conditions it is advised against for with the reason, and the source reference. Where no hard source exists, it says so — generally accepted practice, rather than presented as proven.

Frequently asked questions

What is personal trainer software?

Personal trainer software is software a trainer uses to manage client coaching. Broad platforms combine scheduling, payments, member administration and communication. Specialised tools finish one job completely, such as building workout plans. Which kind you need depends on where your time goes today.

Do I need an all-in-one platform or a specialised tool?

It depends on which problem costs you the most hours. If that is administration — scheduling, invoicing, follow-up — an all-in-one platform pays off. If it is the programming itself, a broad platform helps little: its plan module still makes you click together every exercise, set and rep yourself. A specialised tool takes those decisions over within fixed rules.

What does personal trainer software cost?

At RungGym you pay one monthly price for a fixed number of clients, from €50 for 5 clients to €280 for 50 clients — every plan 50% off during the launch, so €100 and €560 respectively are the regular prices. The more clients, the lower the price per client, from €10 on the smallest plan to €5.60 on the largest. Cancel any month.

Do I need software or is Excel enough?

Up to roughly five clients, writing plans yourself or using an Excel template is fine. Between five and fifteen clients the admin starts to pinch and the chance of mistakes rises. Above fifteen clients working by hand usually becomes unsustainable without losing quality, mainly because a template does not check whether an exercise suits that client's injury.

Does the software replace my expertise as a trainer?

No. The software picks exercises and dosage along fixed rules; you judge the result, adjust where needed and guide the execution. Where a choice deviates from a guideline, that is stated explicitly instead of applied silently. RungGym does not replace a medical diagnosis or a referral.

Do my clients get their own app or login?

No, RungGym is a tool for the trainer. You generate the plan and hand it over as a PDF, on paper or digitally. If you want a platform your clients log into themselves, you need a broader all-in-one package.
